Kamran Qureshi, father of Armaghan— the main accused in the Mustafa Amir murder case— has demanded legal punishment for his son while in police custody. In a video statement obtained by Aaj News, he also apologized to the victim’s parents.
Kamran Qureshi was presented before Judicial Magistrate South Central Jail Karachi, where the court approved his 2-day physical remand. During the hearing, he admitted, “If my son has committed murder, he should be punished according to the law.”
Arrest and Charges
Kamran Qureshi was arrested in a police operation conducted by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) and CIA in Karachi’s Defence area. Authorities allege he was involved in drug trafficking and illegal arms possession. DIG CIA Muqaddas Haider stated that Kamran was also wanted in a police encounter case and had allegedly ordered heavy gunfire at law enforcement officers during the raid.
Court Proceedings and Allegations
During the court hearing, the investigating officer requested a physical remand to interrogate Kamran regarding drug supply and weapons trafficking. The prosecutor argued that he had threatened prosecution officials, judges, and media personnel, and had instructed his son to go into hiding after Mustafa Amir’s murder.
Kamran Qureshi’s lawyer, however, claimed that he was arrested unlawfully from outside his house on March 18 and was merely defending his son. The court asked Kamran if he had been mistreated by the police, to which he responded that he had been subjected to torture. The judge ordered a medical examination.
Apology to the Victim’s Parents
In his statement, Kamran Qureshi expressed regret, saying, “I apologize to Wazhiya Sahiba and her husband for their loss.”
As investigations continue, the case remains under high scrutiny, with authorities aiming to uncover any further links to criminal networks.
