Salman Farooqi, accused of violently assaulting a motorcyclist in Karachi’s Defence Khayaban-e-Ittehad, has been arrested by police and transferred to Gizri Police Station.
The violent episode occurred when Salman Farooqi, reportedly angered by a minor collision, dragged the motorcyclist out and began beating him in front of his two sisters. Despite their repeated pleas, the attacker refused to stop, drawing condemnation after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
According to DIG South Asad Raza, police conducted raids on the suspect’s home and office before successfully apprehending him. He confirmed that Farooqi is in custody and will be presented before a magistrate within 24 hours.
DIG Raza said a case has been registered based on the complaint of a citizen who recorded the video and was present at the scene. Authorities are now reaching out to the victim to formally include his statement in the investigation.
He added that Farooqi’s statement is being recorded, and the available video footage will be treated as crucial evidence in the case. “The law will take its course, and justice will be ensured,” he assured.
The incident has reignited debates around road rage, abuse of power, and the urgent need for strict enforcement of law regardless of a suspect's social status.
