POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif delivered a passionate speech in the National Assembly, calling for urgent unity in the Muslim world in the face of escalating Israeli aggression across the Middle East.
He warned that continued silence and disunity among Muslim nations would lead to further regional destabilization and suffering.
“Israel’s hands are drenched in the blood of Palestinian children. It has targeted Palestine, Iran, and Yemen. If the Muslim world keeps chasing its own narrow interests, the consequences will affect us all,” Asif cautioned.
Highlighting the historical and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran, the minister said Israel's recent attacks on Iranian nuclear and military installations, including the assassination of top commanders and scientists, are not isolated actions.
“Israel is not acting alone. It has the backing and cover of powerful global actors,” Asif said.
He also emphasized that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) must convene urgently and forge a unified strategy to counter Israel’s repeated violations.
“We are seeing non-Muslim voices raising concern over Palestinian oppression, while much of the Muslim world remains silent. Some Islamic countries even maintain ties with Israel—those relations must end,” he demanded.
Referring to Pakistan’s resilience, Asif recalled how the nation had stood firm against Indian aggression in the past:
“We once defeated an enemy five times our size. Similar resolve is now needed from the Islamic world.”
Shifting briefly to economic issues, the Defense Minister acknowledged ongoing inflation, but said the stock market surge and improved growth indicators were signs of recovery.
“Yes, inflation is real—but so is growth. The KSE-100 index reached new highs. But why is one man being made the axis of all politics?” he questioned, alluding to political polarization.
He also criticized elements within the country for allegedly writing letters to the IMF to prevent Pakistan from receiving loans, labeling such actions as unpatriotic and detrimental to national interest.
Khawaja Asif’s remarks come amid growing regional tensions and a volatile domestic political and economic landscape, reinforcing Islamabad’s call for diplomatic mobilization and Islamic unity in global forums.
