Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Claims Role in Bushra Bibi's Release

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has reportedly informed party leaders that he played a significant role in the recent release of Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, from jail after nearly nine months of imprisonment.

According to sources within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Gandapur was aware that Bushra Bibi would not face further arrest on any other charges, suggesting that her release was coordinated to ensure her safe movement. However, it remains unclear who contacted Gandapur regarding her release or what assurances, if any, were given.

An anonymous PTI leader stated that Gandapur claimed to have facilitated the release, emphasizing his unique position as Chief Minister, which provides him access to the establishment and direct communication with Imran Khan. There are ongoing rumors within the party suggesting that Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and Gandapur are the only individuals privy to the conditions surrounding her release and why she was not re-arrested.

A key government source clarified that Bushra Bibi's release was not the result of any deal; rather, the Islamabad High Court granted her bail on merit, deciding against keeping her in jail. This marked a notable shift from previous instances when she faced multiple arrests on different charges.

Bushra Bibi was released on Thursday, just before the Islamabad High Court issued her bail related to the illegal sale of government gifts. Her release is viewed as a significant legal victory for Imran Khan and his family since August of last year.

Imran Khan has consistently asserted that his wife was wrongfully detained and targeted in various cases to exert pressure on him during his political struggles.

When contacted, Barrister Saif, the spokesperson for Chief Minister Gandapur, confirmed that the Chief Minister discussed his involvement in Bushra Bibi's release but refrained from detailing the specific role he played.
