KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur Forms Jirga for Anti-Terrorism Efforts, Calls for Talks with Afghanistan

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur chaired a consultative meeting with political and religious leaders, where it was unanimously decided to form a jirga of influential figures and initiate government-level talks with Afghanistan.

The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar, brought together leaders from various political and religious backgrounds to discuss the rising security challenges in the province.

Key Decisions:

1.     Formation of a Jirga:

    • A jirga comprising prominent political and religious figures will be established to address terrorism-related issues.
    • The jirga will work towards fostering sectarian harmony and countering extremist ideologies.

2.     Talks with Afghanistan:

    • Recognizing the interlinked peace of Pakistan and Afghanistan, participants agreed to initiate official dialogue with Afghan authorities.
    • The discussions aim to address cross-border terrorism and enhance regional stability.

3.     Human Rights Concerns:

    • The leaders raised concerns about human rights violations and stressed the need for legal reforms.
    • A nationwide awareness campaign will be launched to promote peaceful coexistence.

Unity Across Political Lines:

The meeting emphasized the importance of political unity in fighting terrorism, with plans to establish a committee to engage all political parties in the peace initiative.

Community Engagement:

Religious scholars will be tasked with using Friday sermons to promote messages of peace, tolerance, and the dangers of extremism.

Kurram District Issue:

The participants highlighted the regional concerns in Kurram district, warning of its potential to become a national issue if not addressed promptly.

“Peace is a collective responsibility. We need to set aside differences and work together for the safety and prosperity of our province,” said CM Gandapur.

Next Steps:

  • District-level activities will be organized across KP to engage communities in peace efforts.
  • The National Unity Council pledged full support to the provincial government in these efforts.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to national interest, constitutional supremacy, and law enforcement.
