KP Govt Takes Action to Alleviate Kurram Residents' Struggles

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur assured residents of Kurram district on Friday that the provincial government is fully committed to resolving their ongoing challenges. In a statement from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, he emphasized that all available resources are being utilized to restore peace and normalcy in the region.

“Efforts are under way to resolve issues in Kurram as quickly as possible. We hope that peace and normalcy will return to the area soon,” Gandapur stated, urging local elders and stakeholders to support government peace initiatives.

To address the immediate hardships caused by road closures, the government launched a helicopter service to airlift residents and provide critical medical supplies. As of now, 613 individuals have benefited from the service, which has conducted six flights in a single day. The flights transported women, children, patients, students, and jirga members while also delivering essential medicines, with 10 tons already supplied to the region.

PTI MNA Faisal Amin Khan, the chief minister’s brother, elaborated on the crisis, citing tribal land disputes as the root cause, exacerbated by cross-border movement. He dismissed criticisms from the ISPR director general regarding KP governance as “unwarranted” and highlighted the government’s relief efforts, including the delivery of 12.8 tons of medical supplies and 2,000 metric tons of subsidized wheat.

Despite challenges, Faisal noted that KP has achieved unprecedented fiscal milestones, maintaining a Rs103 billion budget surplus against an IMF target of Rs45 billion. Additionally, the provincial government has spent Rs30.3 billion on the Sehat Card healthcare initiative and continued to fund development in merged tribal districts using its own resources after the federal government withheld Rs1.5 trillion owed to KP.

Faisal also commended the provincial government for its commitment to law enforcement and security personnel, citing the Shaheed Package, which provides employment, free plots, and other benefits to the families of martyred officers.

The provincial government continues to lead in fiscal management and humanitarian efforts, setting a benchmark for governance despite limited federal support.
