A 40-year-old man, Yasir Khan, has been jailed for eight years after attempting to smuggle 72 firearm parts into the United Kingdom from Pakistan, the National Crime Agency (NCA) announced on Friday.

Smuggling Attempt & Arrest

According to an NCA statement, Khan had hidden 36 top slides and 36 barrels for 9mm Glock self-loading pistols inside a 1976 Datsun Sunny that was shipped from Pakistan to the UK.

Authorities launched an investigation against Khan, who initially claimed to be a car dealer. However, voice notes on his phone revealed communications with a Pakistani firearms supplier. He was arrested in July 2023 and later pleaded guilty in Birmingham’s Crown Court.

The NCA suspects Khan was involved in a similar smuggling attempt in November 2023. Additionally, evidence suggested that he had been purchasing deactivated firearms, which he allegedly converted into functional lethal weapons.

Dramatic Arrest Footage

A video posted by the NCA on social media platform X showed armed officers raiding a vehicle and arresting Khan while he sat inside. Officers can be seen handcuffing him during the operation.

UK Authorities Cracking Down on Illegal Arms Trade

The case highlights increased efforts by UK law enforcement to combat illegal firearms smuggling. Authorities remain vigilant against international arms trafficking networks, emphasizing that such crimes pose a serious threat to public safety.

Further investigations are underway to determine if Khan was part of a larger firearms smuggling ring.
