POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has strongly condemned the killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
In a statement, the JUI chief described the assassination as a continuation of colonialist aggression against the Gaddafi family. “The Gaddafi family is a metaphor for the struggle against America and global oppressors,” he said, adding that they were martyred for resisting colonialism.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman drew parallels with historical figures, stating that leaders like Candy in America, Nehru in India, and the Bhutto family in Pakistan were similarly eliminated. He expressed the belief that the martyrdom of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi will strengthen the struggle against global colonialism.
He also offered his condolences to the Gaddafi family and the people of Libya, calling for continued support for the cause they represented.
Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was reportedly killed yesterday by four assailants in a garden, after which the perpetrators fled. Once considered the heir to his father’s legacy, Saif had announced his candidacy for Libya’s presidency in 2021, though elections were indefinitely postponed.
