A fragile truce in the Middle East is facing serious collapse as tensions sharply rise between the United States and Iran over control of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. According to Reuters, both sides have engaged in renewed military actions, including naval confrontations, missile strikes, and counter-blockade measures.

The U.S. has launched “Project Freedom” to secure and reopen the waterway for international shipping, reportedly destroying Iranian boats and intercepting missiles and drones. In response, Iran has intensified its military posture in the region, including threats to close or restrict passage through the strait and reports of attacks on regional targets.

The situation has further escalated with conflicting claims from both sides regarding naval encounters and control of shipping lanes. Several merchant vessels have reportedly been affected by explosions or disruptions, while diplomatic efforts—mediated by regional actors—remain stalled.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which a large portion of the world’s oil supply passes, has effectively become a flashpoint for a broader geopolitical confrontation, raising global concerns about energy security, regional stability, and the risk of a wider conflict if tensions continue to escalate.
