The National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) has unveiled its locally developed biometric hardware system at the International Defense Exhibition (IDEAS), marking a significant step forward in Pakistan's technological self-reliance.
At the exhibition, NADRA Technologies showcased its innovative self-service desk and a comprehensive "system-in-a-box" solution to international delegates. This new system allows users to perform various functions such as ID renewal, child registration, and data updates, offering facilities like printing, fingerprinting, iris scanning, and digital signatures.
Speaking at the event, NADRA’s Manager for Business Development, M. Junaid, emphasized the significance of this development. "Previously, we relied on international vendors for such systems, but now we have developed this cutting-edge technology locally," he stated.
The self-enrollment desks will soon be installed in NADRA centers and public places across Pakistan, including educational institutions. The compact and portable system is also tailored for use by law enforcement, financial institutions, and telecom operators, enhancing biometric authentication through small, efficient tablets.
Junaid further highlighted NADRA's international outreach, revealing that the new system is being used in Somalia with the support of the Government of Pakistan. "This device is enabling Somalia to implement a comprehensive National Digital ID system," he added.
The unveiling of this advanced technology at IDEAS not only demonstrates Pakistan’s growing capabilities in tech innovation but also highlights NADRA’s role in enhancing both national and international digital infrastructure.
