Nasir Iqbal, Noor Zaman Enter Asian Doubles Squash Final

Top-ranked Pakistani squash pair Nasir Iqbal and Noor Zaman booked their spot in the men’s final of the 2nd Asian Doubles Squash Championship with a remarkable 2-1 comeback victory over hosts Malaysia on Wednesday.

The high-intensity semi-final, held at the Jalan Stadium in Sarawak, saw the Malaysian team of Duncan Lee and Syafiq Kamal snatch the first set 11-10. But Pakistan’s Iqbal and Zaman mounted a gritty comeback, taking the next two sets 11-9 in a gripping 69-minute contest that showcased both physical endurance and tactical brilliance.

With this win, Pakistan advances to the final and will face traditional rivals India in what promises to be an electrifying title clash tomorrow.

The victory comes on the heels of a strong quarter-final performance on Tuesday, where the Pakistani duo defeated South Korea 2-1 in a swift 37-minute match.

Zaman and Iqbal have been maintaining impressive form throughout the season. Earlier in June, they were in Malaysia for the 23rd Asian Individual Squash Championships, where Iqbal delivered a stellar performance to defeat Hong Kong’s Lai Cheuk Nam and progress to the quarter-finals. Zaman, however, narrowly missed out after a hard-fought 3-2 battle against Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah in the pre-quarterfinals.

Zaman, a rising star in Pakistan squash, added another feather to his cap earlier this year when he clinched the U23 World Squash Championship title in April, overcoming Egypt’s Karim El Torkey in a stunning comeback.

As Pakistan prepares for a highly anticipated final against India, the squash fraternity is hopeful that Iqbal and Zaman can bring home the championship and further solidify their position as Asia’s top doubles team.
