Nationwide Internet Disruptions Continue: Mobile Companies and PTA Blame Miscommunication Amid New Regulations

Internet services have been severely impacted across Pakistan in recent days, causing significant inconvenience for users. Many are struggling with problems such as the inability to download audio messages and other connectivity issues. Despite widespread complaints, officials from Mobile Campaigns have stated that the disruption in social media services is not due to their operations, while the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been reluctant to provide a clear stance on the matter.

According to sources, the government is in the process of implementing new regulations to co-regulate social media platforms. This initiative, which is awaiting federal cabinet approval, aims to ensure regular categorization and regulation of social media services. Under these new regulations, companies will be required to secure internal data and provide periodic updates on location and general information.

The disruptions are reportedly linked to ongoing work on a new firewall system. Authorities have indicated that these interruptions may persist until August 30 due to the firewall's testing phase. Earlier disruptions on July 31 were attributed to issues with the Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL), which led to widespread network outages affecting banks and government offices.

A PTCL spokesperson confirmed that network outages were affecting multiple cities, contributing to widespread service disruptions. The issue was later attributed to firewall testing, which has not only slowed down social media applications but also impacted overall internet speeds. The trial of the new internet security network system, which began on July 26, has been linked to these ongoing problems.

As the situation evolves, users are advised to stay informed and patient as authorities work to resolve the issues and implement the new regulations.
