NDMA Issues Rain, Flood & Landslide Alert Across Pakistan (Oct 5–7)

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert, warning of possible heavy rains, flooding, and landslides in various parts of the country from October 5 to 7.

According to the NDMA spokesperson, intermittent rainfall is expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) during this period. Rain is also likely in the upper catchments of major rivers including the Jhelum, Ravi, and Sutlej.

Thunderstorms and Rising River Flows

Thunderstorms are predicted in several KP districts including Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Mohmand, Nowshera, Malakand, Charsadda, and Abbottabad.

Authorities also cautioned that the flow of rivers Swat, Panjkoda, and Darkabal is expected to increase due to rainfall.

Landslide Risk in Northern Areas

The NDMA warned that landslides may occur in the mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, potentially affecting major travel routes including:

  • Torghar
  • Battagram
  • Shangla
  • Lower Kohistan
  • Tatta Pani
  • Gilgit
  • Hunza
  • Rondo
  • Skardu-Jaglot road

The spokesperson emphasized that landslides and road blockages could disrupt travel and communication in northern Pakistan.

Public Safety Advisory

The NDMA has advised residents and travelers to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas, and follow updates from local authorities. Emergency services have been alerted to remain on standby.

“The public is urged to stay vigilant and take precautionary measures to minimize risks during the forecasted weather spell,” the spokesperson said.
