Proceedings in the pre-arrest bail cases of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and his wife Bushra Bibi remained inconclusive in a local Islamabad court on Monday, due to the absence of the PTI founder.
Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majuka was scheduled to hear six pre-arrest bail applications filed by the PTI founder and one by Bushra Bibi. However, due to the founder’s unavailability—either in person or via video link—no arguments could be presented, resulting in yet another adjournment.
The court had earlier directed that the PTI founder be produced in court or appear via video link, but compliance was not ensured. Consequently, the court postponed the proceedings on all bail applications until September 9.
Meanwhile, in a separate proceeding, Additional Sessions Judge Amir Zia presided over Bushra Bibi’s interim bail plea in the November 26 protest case. The court extended her interim bail until September 9, providing her temporary legal relief.
Background on the Case
The PTI founder and Bushra Bibi are facing multiple legal challenges, particularly related to the May 9 and November 26 protest cases, among others. The November 26 protest case concerns allegations of incitement and unlawful assembly during anti-government demonstrations.
Legal analysts believe the repeated postponements reflect procedural deadlocks in high-profile cases, often influenced by security, political, or logistical complications.
The court has now made September 9 the next critical date for both sets of proceedings, where it expects compliance with its earlier orders and a resumption of legal arguments.
