The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a significant reduction in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) prices for the month of May 2025, a move expected to bring financial relief to both households and industries.
According to the official notification issued by OGRA:
- LNG price for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has been reduced by 12.51%, setting the new rate at $11.79 per MMBTU. In comparison, the April price stood at $13.47 per MMBTU.
- LNG price for Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has been slashed by 13.64%, bringing the new rate down to $10.87 per MMBTU, compared to $12.59 in April.
The downward revision in prices reflects the global LNG market trends and is aimed at cushioning the impact of energy costs on consumers amid inflationary pressures. Industries, particularly those dependent on gas-based energy, are expected to benefit from reduced operational costs as a result of this adjustment.
OGRA periodically revises LNG prices based on international benchmarks, cargo deliveries, and exchange rate fluctuations. This reduction for May marks one of the largest monthly drops in recent times.
Consumers and stakeholders across sectors have welcomed the move, hoping it translates into lower utility bills and enhanced economic activity.
