Only one Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader appeared before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the negative propaganda against state institutions on social media.
The federal government-formed JIT, headed by IG Islamabad, had summoned 17 PTI leaders for questioning under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016. Among those summoned was Aleema Khan, sister of PTI’s founder Imran Khan, who appeared a day earlier on March 19.
However, according to sources, the JIT waited on March 20, but none of the remaining PTI members showed up except Aun Abbas Bappi.
Ongoing Investigation Against PTI
The investigation focuses on anti-state social media propaganda, allegedly linked to PTI leaders and supporters. Authorities claim that certain individuals orchestrated online campaigns to target state institutions and spread misleading narratives.
The absence of key PTI figures from the JIT proceedings raises questions about the party’s strategy and potential legal consequences for those who fail to comply with the investigation.
What’s Next?
The JIT is expected to issue fresh summons and could take legal action against those who refuse to cooperate. It remains to be seen whether PTI leaders will comply with future proceedings or challenge the probe on legal grounds.
