The first-ever convention center for overseas Pakistanis in Islamabad is hosting a two-day event, the Overseas Pakistanis Convention, which has attracted over 1,500 overseas Pakistanis from more than 80 countries. These participants have been granted the status of state guests, emphasizing the importance of their contributions to the nation.
The inaugural ceremony kicked off with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem and the resounding slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad.” Key dignitaries in attendance included Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, federal ministers, Pakistani ambassadors abroad, and influential figures from various sectors.
During the ceremony, Syed Qamar Raza, Chairman of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation, announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will unveil a special package for overseas Pakistanis during his address at the convention.
In addition to the formal discussions, Army Chief General Asim Munir will host a dinner for the participants today, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also honor the participants with a dinner tomorrow, followed by an address.
The convention is a platform to celebrate the contributions of overseas Pakistanis and hear their concerns and suggestions for future policies. Their efforts are being recognized for playing a vital role in Pakistan's economy, particularly through remittances that contribute billions of dollars every year.
Information Minister Atta Tarar praised the overseas Pakistanis, calling them “the pride and crown” of the nation. He highlighted the significant impact that their investments and remittances have had on the country’s economy and development.
