Pakistan Lodges Complaint to ICC Over Fakhar Zaman’s Controversial Dismissal

The Pakistan cricket team has officially lodged a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the controversial dismissal of opener Fakhar Zaman during the high-voltage Asia Cup clash against India.

The incident occurred when Fakhar, batting on 15, was declared out by TV umpire Rochera Paliyagroge of Sri Lanka for a cut-behind catch. The decision, which came at a crucial stage with Pakistan’s score at just 21 runs, sparked frustration among the Pakistani camp.

Team manager Naveed Akram Cheema raised the issue with match referee Andy Pycroft after the match, while Pakistan’s management also highlighted their reservations in the captain’s official match report submitted to the ICC.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha admitted the team felt the dismissal was unfair:

“Fakhar Zaman’s dismissal was probably wrong, but the umpires decide. We felt the ball hit the ground, but the decision is up to the umpire.”

Sources confirmed that both Fakhar Zaman and head coach expressed displeasure upon his return to the dressing room, believing the call significantly impacted Pakistan’s position in the match.

The complaint underscores Pakistan’s growing concerns over umpiring standards in high-stakes encounters, especially in marquee matches like those against India.
