POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
In Rawalpindi, the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations announced that troops from Pakistan and Sri Lanka have begun a two-week joint counter-terrorism exercise in Tarbela.
The exercise, titled “Pakistan–Sri Lanka Bilateral Exercise Shake Hands-II”, involves participation from Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group (SSG) and special forces from the Sri Lankan Army. It officially started on April 27 and will continue for two weeks.
According to officials, the main objective of the exercise is to improve professional skills through joint training and further strengthen the long-standing military relationship between the two countries.
During the drills, participating troops will exchange operational knowledge and experience in counter-terrorism operations. This collaboration is expected to enhance coordination, interoperability, and mutual understanding between the forces.
The exercise is part of Pakistan’s broader efforts to expand defence cooperation globally. Recently, Pakistan also conducted similar joint training exercises with Egypt, while the Pakistan Air Force participated in a multinational air combat exercise in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, Pakistan and the United States held a joint military exercise earlier this year.
