A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight, PK-306, which departed from Karachi to Lahore on Tuesday night at 8 PM, landed with a missing front wheel, raising concerns about flight safety.
Incident Details
According to sources, after PK-306 took off from Karachi Airport, some aircraft components were found on the runway, suggesting a mechanical issue. Upon landing at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, it was discovered that one of the aircraft’s two front wheels was missing.
Preliminary reports indicate that the missing wheel may have detached mid-flight, but its exact location remains unknown. Experts have called this a serious flight safety violation, requiring urgent investigation.
PIA's Response
A PIA spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that after landing in Lahore, one wheel was found missing. The airline has initiated an internal investigation alongside the Safety Investigation Board to determine the cause.
"The final report will confirm the actual reason, but initial observations suggest that the wheel may have been damaged due to a possible Foreign Object Debris (FOD) impact on the Karachi runway," the spokesperson said.
Despite the missing wheel, the aircraft executed a smooth and safe landing. The design of the aircraft allows for such contingencies, ensuring passenger safety.
Conclusion
While PIA assures that passenger safety was not compromised, this incident raises serious concerns about aircraft maintenance and runway safety at Karachi Airport. Authorities are expected to release a detailed report following the investigation.
