PML-N Challenges KP Reserved Seats Allocation in High Court

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has challenged the distribution of reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, filing a formal petition in the Peshawar High Court through Barrister Saqib Raza.

In the petition, the PML-N contended that despite having seven general seats in the KP Assembly, the party was allocated only eight reserved seats, while the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) received ten reserved seats despite winning just seven general seats — a move the PML-N labeled as unconstitutional and discriminatory.

The party has requested the court to nullify the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) notification regarding the distribution of reserved seats in the assembly.

The petition further urged the court to instruct the ECP to carry out a fair redistribution of reserved seats in accordance with constitutional provisions and proportional representation.

Additionally, the PML-N requested the court to bar the reserved seat members from taking oath until a final verdict is announced.

This legal development comes amid growing tensions between political parties in KP, where the distribution of seats has remained controversial since the general elections. The outcome of this petition could significantly impact the composition of the provincial assembly and the political balance in the region.

The Peshawar High Court is expected to take up the case in the coming days, and political observers are watching closely as the verdict may set a legal precedent for future seat allocations.
