A terrorist attack on the Pezo police station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Lakki Marwat was successfully repelled by security forces, forcing the assailants to flee under the cover of darkness, a police statement confirmed on Saturday.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 am, with law enforcement officers responding swiftly to the attack. According to the police, “An exchange of fire took place, but due to the bravery and quick response of our personnel, the Fitna Al Khawarij (a term used for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan) were forced to flee without causing any harm.”
Lakki Marwat District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Jawad Ishaq commended the police for their vigilance and courage in thwarting the attack.
Rising Terror Threat in KP
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan, since the outlawed TTP revoked its ceasefire with the government in November 2022. Lakki Marwat, Peshawar, Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, and Bajaur districts have faced multiple attacks this month alone.
On Monday, police successfully repelled another wave of attacks on police stations and checkposts in Lakki Marwat and Peshawar. In the early hours of March 17, Gambila police station in Lakki Marwat was targeted, but the Quick Response Force (QRF) retaliated, forcing the militants to retreat. Similarly, on Sunday night, unidentified attackers threw a grenade at a checkpost in Peshawar’s Malazai area, but no casualties were reported, as per Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Masood Bangash.
Authorities remain on high alert as security forces continue efforts to combat the growing terror threat in the region.
