POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Karachi: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MPA Sardar Khan Chandio has strongly warned against depriving Sindh of its rightful share of water, cautioning that continuous neglect could lead to extreme consequences. Addressing the Sindh Assembly, he emphasized that Sindh is already suffering due to severe water shortages, and further injustices may push its people to the brink.
"Sindh Should Not Be Taken for Granted"
Sardar Khan Chandio stated that Sindh is struggling for water while authorities continue to exploit its resources. He criticized the federal government for failing to complete key water projects, including the Right Bank Outfall Drain (RBOD) Scheme, which remains stalled due to funding issues.
He praised President Asif Ali Zardari for his strong stance against the construction of controversial canals and commended senior PPP leader Nisar Khuhro for raising Sindh’s concerns. "We will not remain silent; we will fight till the last limit to protect Sindh’s rights," he declared.
"Rising Sea Levels, Sinking Sindh"
Chandio highlighted the alarming situation in Thatta, where sea intrusion has swallowed vast agricultural lands. He further warned that the Indus River no longer reaches Kotri Barrage, worsening the crisis. "There is no barrage on the right bank that ensures water reaches the tail-end areas," he added.
The PPP MPA also questioned whether Sindh was being punished for its loyalty to Pakistan, stating: "Sindh created Pakistan, and Sindh will save it. But why are we being deprived of our rights?"
The speech has reignited concerns over Sindh’s water crisis, as political and social circles continue to demand an end to unjust policies affecting the province’s survival.
