PPP Nominates Chaudhry Yasin as Candidate for Azad Kashmir Prime Minister

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has officially nominated Chaudhry Yasin as its candidate for the office of Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), party sources confirmed on Wednesday.

The decision marks a crucial step in the party’s planned in-house change within the AJK Legislative Assembly, as preparations move forward to table a no-confidence motion against the incumbent Prime Minister Anwarul Haq.

According to party insiders, the announcement was made by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during a meeting at Zardari House, attended by senior members of the PPP Azad Kashmir leadership.

“The party leadership has given approval to Chaudhry Yasin’s name after detailed consultations,” sources said, confirming that the formal submission of the no-confidence motion will take place tomorrow at the Azad Kashmir Assembly Secretariat.

Four Names Considered for Top Slot

The PPP reportedly deliberated over four potential candidates for the AJK premiership before reaching a consensus on Chaudhry Yasin.
The shortlisted names included:

·       Chaudhry Yasin

·       Latif Akbar

·       Faisal Mumtaz Rathore

·       Sardar Yaqoob

After internal discussions, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari endorsed Yasin’s name, describing him as a “senior and experienced leader capable of uniting the party in Azad Kashmir.”

No-Confidence Motion Expected Tomorrow

Party sources confirmed that the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Anwarul Haq will be submitted tomorrow, signalling a major political shake-up in the AJK government.

Anwarul Haq, who came to power with the PPP’s support, has recently faced growing discontent within the coalition ranks, particularly after differences over administrative decisions and party alignments.

If successful, the move could result in PPP taking full control of the AJK government, reshaping the political landscape in the region.

Political Context

The development follows weeks of internal party meetings aimed at restructuring the AJK leadership and reasserting PPP’s influence in the region. The party has been seeking to consolidate its position ahead of upcoming political transitions and regional policy challenges.

Political observers view this move as part of the PPP’s broader strategy to strengthen its governance footprint across Pakistan-administered regions and prepare for future electoral battles.
