President Asif Ali Zardari, during his official visit to China, held a significant meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The discussions focused on accelerating the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and ensuring the security of Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
The President was given a grand welcome, including a guard of honor by the Chinese armed forces, with the national anthems of both countries played. Chinese children extended a warm greeting to the Pakistani delegation.
Accompanying President Zardari were Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, and other high-ranking officials.
Key Agreements and MoUs Signed
During the visit, two significant memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed, marking a new phase in bilateral cooperation:
- Science and Technology Cooperation: Pakistan and China will collaborate on advancements in science and technology.
- Economic and Trade Sectors: Agreements to bolster cooperation in industry, trade, and various economic sectors were formalized.
Both sides also pledged increased collaboration in health, media, energy, and social development.
Meetings with Top Chinese Officials
In a separate meeting, President Zardari met Zhao Lijie, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China. They highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations, emphasizing strategic mutual trust.
The discussions also covered the second phase of high-quality development under CPEC, with agreements to promote renewable energy, infrastructure, and agriculture projects. Both sides agreed on the importance of parliamentary exchanges and political consultations to strengthen bilateral ties further.
Deepening Pak-China Friendship
The two leaders reiterated their commitment to people-centric development through CPEC, described as a shining example of cooperation between the two countries.
President Zardari’s 5-Day Visit
President Zardari, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Foreign Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and other key officials, is on a five-day visit to China. He is also scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the 9th Asian Winter Games at the special invitation of the Chinese government.
This visit underscores the deepening strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, promising new avenues of cooperation for mutual development.
