PTI Accuses Government of Stalling Talks, Demands Access to Imran Khan Amid Continued Repression

In a fiery press conference on Thursday, PTI spokesperson Akram accused the government of deliberately stalling talks with the party, citing what he described as the government’s stubbornness. He emphasized that the party had been consistent in its demands, yet the government had repeatedly asked for written submissions of their demands.
“Our demand is simple: grant us access to our chairman,” Akram stated, underscoring the lack of progress in negotiations. He emphasized that PTI founder Imran Khan has been denied any communication with his legal team and supporters for over three months. “Even lawyers are not allowed to meet him,” Akram added.
The spokesperson expressed frustration over the government's failure to take PTI’s concerns seriously, despite their willingness to engage in dialogue. He pointed out that Khan had insisted on the formation of a judicial commission during the third round of talks, questioning how the government could address major demands when it couldn’t even arrange a single meeting between the PTI committee and Khan.
Akram also condemned the inhumane conditions under which Khan is being held in prison. “He has been placed in a dead cell meant for terrorists, with no access to TV, washrooms, or visitation rights,” Akram alleged, calling the government’s claims of providing facilities to Khan false. He also mentioned that the court had instructed the government to allow Khan to communicate with his children, a directive that the government has failed to implement.
In a pointed comparison, Akram criticized the preferential treatment given to PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif during his imprisonment, noting how Sharif was allowed to choose his lunch and dinner preferences while Khan remains isolated and deprived of basic rights.
Asserting that the government’s actions are driven by fear, Akram mocked, “Are you losing sleep worrying about what happens if our chairman is released?”
The PTI’s stance remains firm: they continue to demand the government’s adherence to court orders and the right to access their leader, Imran Khan, as they press for a resolution to their ongoing political battle.
