Workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a protest at the rest area near Swabi Interchange on the M-1 motorway, completely blocking traffic in both directions.
Protesters set fire to tires and wood, causing long queues of vehicles and severe inconvenience for commuters. The protest comes as part of the party’s ongoing demonstrations in the region.
PTI leader Ahmed Khan Niazi is expected to reach the site shortly to address the workers. Meanwhile, convoys of PTI supporters traveling from Nowshera and Charsadda have also reached the Swabi Interchange.
The Motorway Police confirmed that the M-1 Sawani Interchange (417 km) has been closed and urged commuters to avoid the area until the protest is resolved. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further escalation.
Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes as the protest continues, and traffic authorities are working to restore the flow of vehicles safely.
