The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 within a 15-kilometre radius of all airports and air force bases across the province from June 5 to June 20, aimed at enhancing flight safety during the upcoming Eidul Azha celebrations.
The decision, outlined in a formal notification, bans several activities that are considered hazardous to aviation, particularly during Eid, when an increase in the disposal of sacrificial waste attracts birds, creating dangerous conditions for aircraft.
Among the prohibited activities are pigeon flying, fireworks, use of drones, laser lights, and dumping of sacrificial or Sadqa meat. These practices, officials say, can significantly disrupt flight operations and pose a serious threat to human lives and property.
Authorities have noted that in recent years, multiple incidents involving bird strikes have occurred near airports in Pakistan, leading to flight delays and safety concerns. The improper disposal of animal remains following Eid sacrifices has been a key contributing factor, drawing large numbers of birds to flight paths.
In response, the government has also directed all deputy commissioners to ensure enhanced cleanliness measures in and around airport areas to mitigate risks. Public awareness campaigns have been launched in recent years to educate citizens on the dangers of careless meat disposal and other risky behaviors.
Officials stress that the imposition of Section 144 is a preventive safety measure, and citizens are urged to strictly comply with the restrictions to help avoid potential tragedies during a period of high air travel.
The ban will remain in effect until June 20, covering the critical days surrounding the Eid holiday, when sacrificial activities are at their peak.
