Speaking at a joint press conference in Lahore alongside Additional IG Counter Crime Department (CCD) Sohail Zafar Chatha, Dr. Usman Anwar revealed that Punjab has witnessed a 70 percent reduction in crime rates, attributing the achievement to improved policing and advanced monitoring systems.

“The Safe City initiative has proven to be a game-changer in crime prevention. Today, its expansion to 27 more districts will further strengthen law enforcement capabilities,” said Dr. Usman Anwar, while congratulating the CCD team for their dedicated performance.

During the press briefing, Additional IG Sohail Zafar Chatha issued a stern warning to individuals in possession of illegal weapons, urging them to surrender their arms within the given deadline.

“Those holding illegal weapons must deposit them before the deadline ends. After that, strict legal action will be taken — no one will be pardoned,” he cautioned.

Chatha also advised individuals involved in personal enmities to resolve their disputes peacefully.

“Those who have enmities should reconcile — or go to Dubai,” he remarked, adding that only citizens with clean records would be allowed to keep licensed firearms, and public display of weapons would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The Safe City Program, initially launched in Lahore, uses a network of CCTV cameras, command centers, and data-driven policing tools to prevent and detect crimes, ensuring rapid response and improved safety across Punjab.
