Rana Sanaullah Responds to PTI's Demand for Political Prisoners' List and Judicial Commission

Rana Sanaullah, the Prime Minister's Advisor on Political Affairs and a key member of the government committee negotiating with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has urged the opposition party to present a formal list of political prisoners before the government can respond to their concerns.

Speaking on Geo News’ morning show Geo Pakistan, Rana Sanaullah emphasized the importance of negotiations in any democratic process, stating that the government had always been in favor of dialogue, even when it was in opposition.

PTI’s Written Demands Awaited

Rana Sanaullah made it clear that once the PTI presents written demands, they will be discussed with the ruling party and its allies before the government provides a response. He also addressed the party’s call for a judicial commission, questioning its specific terms of reference (TORs), powers, and timeline for submitting a report.

Sanaullah said that these crucial details needed to be clarified before any further steps could be taken. "What exactly are the terms of reference for the Judicial Commission? What powers will it have? How long will it take to present a report? These are things that still need to be addressed," he added.

Political Prisoners and Conditions for the Judicial Commission

When asked about PTI’s demand for a judicial commission, Rana Sanaullah sought clarity on the party’s expectations, specifically regarding the leadership of the commission. "Do they have conditions for who should head the commission?" he asked.

The PML-N leader also questioned the definition of "political prisoners" and whether the individuals identified by PTI truly fit the status of political prisoners or were involved in criminal activities. "These are important matters that will require time to thoroughly discuss," he explained.

Call for Patience and Consensus

Rana Sanaullah urged all parties to approach these discussions with patience, tolerance, and a spirit of consensus-building. He stressed that the government remains committed to finding common ground and resolving issues amicably through dialogue.

His remarks come amid growing tensions between the government and PTI, with negotiations continuing over key political and legal reforms.
