POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

A high-level meeting of National Security Advisers (NSAs) from member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is currently underway in Beijing, with Pakistan and India both represented.
From Pakistan, Asim Malik is attending, while Ajit Doval is representing India. Their participation in the same forum comes at a time when regional tensions remain sensitive on multiple fronts.
The meeting also includes top security officials from China, Russia, Iran, and Uzbekistan, marking a significant gathering of regional powers to discuss pressing security challenges.
According to diplomatic sources, the agenda covers counterterrorism, regional stability, cybersecurity, and cross-border threats, though no bilateral talks between India and Pakistan have been confirmed.
“A dinner is also being held in honor of all National Security Advisers,” sources added, indicating efforts to maintain a cordial atmosphere during the strategic dialogue.
The SCO, a Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance, has emerged as an important forum for regional cooperation and dialogue. Despite deep-rooted tensions between some member states, such forums are seen as crucial to promoting engagement over isolation.
The NSA meeting is expected to lay the groundwork for the upcoming SCO Heads of State Summit scheduled later this year.
