Climate
A severe cold wave has gripped Pakistan, bringing freezing temperatures and disrupting daily life in several regions, with Balochistan bearing the brunt of the harsh weather.
In northern Balochistan, rivers and even pipelines have frozen due to the extreme cold, severely impacting water supply. Meanwhile, in Ziarat, Quetta, and Kalat, citizens are facing significant difficulties as gas pressure drops, making heating and cooking a challenge during the chilling temperatures.
In Karachi, the cold has intensified due to strong cold winds, leaving the city experiencing unusually low temperatures. Similarly, severe cold is affecting much of Punjab, including Lahore, with temperatures plummeting and making life uncomfortable for residents.
The mountainous areas have also witnessed heavy snowfall, with Murree seeing an increase in cold following the snowstorm. Snowfall continues intermittently in the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding to the region's winter woes.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a decrease in rainfall and snowfall during the current winter season. However, it has also warned of even colder temperatures starting from the second week of January, signaling a prolonged winter ahead.
As the cold wave persists, authorities are urging citizens to take necessary precautions against the extreme weather, especially in areas with low gas pressure and freezing water supply.
