Due to below-normal rainfall, Pakistan is experiencing a severe water crisis in Tarbela and Mangla Dams, with river water flow reaching dangerously low levels.
The Meteorological Department has warned that if the current trend continues, drought conditions may worsen, especially as temperatures rise. Officials predict below-normal rainfall next month, further increasing the risk of drought.
From September 2024 to March 2025, Pakistan recorded 40% less rainfall than usual, with Sindh being the most affected province.
To tackle the situation, the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) Technical Committee is holding a meeting today to assess water availability for the upcoming Kharif season and strategize solutions.
