Shehbaz Sharif Appointed Chairman of National Economic Council, Key Members Nominated for Strategic Planning

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been appointed as the chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), a significant development aimed at fostering strategic planning and coordination for economic development in Pakistan. The inclusion of four chief ministers ensures representation from all provinces, highlighting a collaborative approach to national economic policymaking.

 

Prime Minister Sharif has nominated key members to join the council, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. Additionally, provincial representatives such as Marriyum Aurangzeb, Jam Khan Shoro, Muzammil Aslam, and Zahoor Buledi will contribute to the NEC's deliberations.

 

The NEC's inaugural meeting, scheduled for June 10, will focus on reviewing the annual plan for the current financial year and approving critical initiatives such as the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and the 13th Five-Year Plan for the upcoming fiscal year. The council's primary responsibility will be to sanction annual development programs for provinces and government entities, ensuring strategic allocation of resources to drive economic growth nationwide.

 

The establishment of the National Economic Council underscores the government's commitment to comprehensive and coordinated economic planning, aimed at fostering sustainable development and prosperity for all citizens.
