The Sindh High Court has summoned the chief of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) responsible for investigating missing persons cases, expressing significant frustration over the slow and ineffective progress. The court has demanded a comprehensive report from the federal government’s subordinate agencies within four weeks.
Justice Nimatullah Phalputo, who led the proceedings, voiced strong dissatisfaction with the current state of the investigation. He criticized the JIT for its apparent inaction over the past 13 years, remarking that the officers involved seem to be merely "drinking tea" during meetings rather than actively addressing the issue. Justice Phalputo emphasized that had the police worked with honesty and diligence, the problem of missing persons would have been resolved long ago.
The court expressed disbelief that, despite years of investigation, the JIT has failed to identify those responsible for the disappearances. In an unprecedented move, Justice Phalputo reprimanded the DSP of the Pakistan Bazar police station, warning that continued poor performance could lead to imprisonment.
The Sindh High Court’s stern measures highlight its commitment to ensuring accountability and effective action in resolving the critical issue of missing persons in the region.
