Sindh Rangers, CTD Arrest Three Fitna al Khawarij Terrorists in Karachi Joint Operation

Sindh Rangers and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) apprehended three terrorists affiliated with the proscribed Fitna al Khawarij group during a joint intelligence-based operation in Karachi’s Korangi area, according to an official statement released on Monday.

The terrorists were identified as Inamullah alias Lala, Naeemullah alias Umar Zali, and Muhammad Taib alias Muhammad. The operation resulted in the recovery of arms, ammunition, and explosives from the arrested individuals.

The group is associated with the Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which the government officially refers to as Fitna al Khawarij — a term denoting their status as outcasts and enemies of the state.

Deep Terrorist Links and Histories

The Sindh Rangers’ statement revealed significant backgrounds for all three suspects:

  • Naeemullah, who joined the group in 2014, is a trained combatant with a long record of involvement in terrorist activities in Waziristan. His father and uncle were both senior commanders in the Fitna al Khawarij network and were killed during operations by security forces. He had recently relocated to Karachi to expand and organise the group’s operations.
  • Inamullah became active with the Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction in 2017 and operated under commander Abdul Hameed alias Fikramand in the Jani Khel area of Waziristan. He too had moved to Karachi with the intent to revive and facilitate the terror network’s urban footprint. His brother, also a key member of the group, was active in Waziristan.
  • Muhammad Taib joined the group in 2023 following the death of his brother Abdul Razzaq. He had taken on the role of facilitator in Karachi, supporting logistical and operational efforts for the banned outfit.

The statement said, “The three accused were planning terrorism in Karachi when they were arrested. They have now been handed over to the CTD police for further legal proceedings.”

Terror Threat Remains High

Karachi has seen repeated threats and occasional attacks linked to the TTP and its splinter groups. In October 2023, CTD arrested three alleged TTP terrorists from Sohrab Goth, and earlier that year, the group claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on police in the same area.

Elsewhere in the country, terrorist activity has surged, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the TTP’s withdrawal from a fragile ceasefire in 2022. According to security officials, the group has been actively targeting police, security personnel, and government installations.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to eliminating all forms of terrorism and ensuring public safety across the nation. The successful arrest of these terrorists marks a significant step in disrupting planned attacks and dismantling terror networks operating in urban areas.
