The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday rejected a request by Latif Khosa to arrange a meeting with Imran Khan.
The request was made during the hearing of a case concerning the eligibility of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to contest elections in connection with the Toshakhana matter. Khosa appeared before the court on behalf of the former prime minister.
During proceedings, Khosa urged the bench to facilitate a meeting with the PTI founder. In response, Justice Hashim Khan Kakar remarked that the authority to take suo motu notice had been curtailed and questioned how the court could order a meeting in a criminal case.
Justice Salahuddin Panhwar observed that directives could not be issued in a matter that was not fixed before the bench. Justice Kakar further advised Khosa not to make political statements in court, suggesting that political discourse should take place in Parliament instead.
At one point, Justice Kakar remarked with a smile that Khosa’s comments would likely make headlines and be featured in media tickers and vlogs.
Following the exchange, the bench formally rejected Khosa’s request to meet Imran Khan. The hearing proceeded on the legal questions related to the Toshakhana case, while the matter of arranging a meeting was dismissed.
The development comes amid ongoing legal and political proceedings involving the former prime minister, who remains incarcerated in multiple cases.
