U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday expressed optimism about a Gaza ceasefire, issued a stark warning to Iran, and commented on the fragility of presidential life, even likening it to the dangers of riding a bullock cart.
Gaza Ceasefire "By Next Week"
Speaking on the conflict in Gaza, President Trump stated,
“A ceasefire in Gaza is close. I think it will be by next week.”
He described the situation as “very bad,” emphasizing that the United States is providing humanitarian aid, including food and financial support, without meaningful help from other nations.
Ready to Bomb Iran Again
When asked about Iran’s uranium enrichment program, Trump did not hesitate to affirm his stance:
“If Iran enriches uranium to a level that concerns the U.S., I would definitely consider bombing again.”
He emphasized that he wants international inspectors, particularly from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) or a similar credible body, to assess the damage to Iran’s nuclear facilities, which the U.S. bombed last week.
Trump also responded to a provocative statement from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had claimed Iran “slapped America in the face” with a retaliatory missile strike on a U.S. base in Qatar. Trump promised a swift response to any further provocation.
Takes Credit for India-Pakistan Ceasefire
Switching gears, Trump claimed credit for easing tensions between nuclear rivals India and Pakistan, stating:
“I’m very happy to resolve the India-Pakistan issue… We resolved it through trade. Both countries have advanced nuclear weapons.”
He praised the leadership in both Islamabad and New Delhi for showing restraint.
Presidency is Dangerous, Like Riding a Bullock Cart
In a bizarre analogy, President Trump compared the dangers of being president to high-risk activities:
“If you drive a bullock cart or race cars, there’s a one percent risk of death. If you're president, it’s five percent.”
He also referenced a close call in Pennsylvania, saying:
“Sometimes there are reminders… of being shot in the ear… it seems that the heartbeat has increased.”
Trump joked that had he known the risks, he might not have run for office.
Comments on North Korea and Canada
Trump said he remained hopeful about ending tensions with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, suggesting negotiations could resume soon.
On the other hand, he called off trade talks with Canada, labeling negotiations with Ottawa “difficult.”
