Islamabad: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to visit Pakistan later this week as part of a four-day, three-nation Asia tour aimed at boosting regional ties, according to Turkish news outlet Daily Sabah.

The tour, which starts today in Malaysia, will include Indonesia before concluding in Pakistan.

Agenda for Regional Cooperation
According to reports, President Erdogan's meetings will focus on strengthening cooperation in trade, defense, and regional security. Key topics on the international agenda, such as the Palestine-Israel conflict, the situation in Syria, and the Russia-Ukraine war, will also be discussed.

Strategic Partnership with Pakistan
Turkiye and Pakistan share a strong strategic partnership, particularly in the defense sector. The two nations have signed multiple defense agreements, including deals for the acquisition of naval vessels and uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The MILGEM (National Ship) project remains a highlight of this collaboration, with Pakistan becoming the first country to purchase Turkiye’s indigenously made naval vessels.

Previous Visits and Bilateral Ties
Erdogan's last official visit to Pakistan was in February 2020, during which he met with then-President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan to strengthen strategic and economic ties.

Zardari Meets Erdogan in Istanbul
President Asif Ali Zardari recently had a brief meeting with President Erdogan at Istanbul Airport while en route to Portugal. The leaders discussed bilateral ties and matters of mutual interest.

Zardari is visiting Portugal to express condolences on the passing of Prince Karim Aga Khan and meet with Prince Rahim Al-Husseini, the newly appointed 50th hereditary imam.
