Islamabad Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of renowned economic and defense analyst Sardar Fahim, officials confirmed during a joint press conference held by IG Islamabad and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry on Tuesday.
The suspects, who were taken into custody from Gujranwala and Sargodha, are described as habitual criminals who had been scouting homes for possible burglaries.
“They entered Fahim Sardar’s house with the intention of robbery,” said IG Islamabad, adding that Sardar resisted, prompting the attackers to strike him with an iron bar, fatally injuring him.
The incident had sparked outrage in policy and academic circles, as Fahim Sardar, a respected voice on national security and economics, was affiliated with a government-linked think tank. He was found critically injured in his home and succumbed to his wounds while being taken to the hospital.
Calling it a "test case", IG Islamabad noted that the case was resolved within six days, emphasizing the swift action and coordination among police teams across districts.
Minister Talal Chaudhry commended Islamabad Police for their broader success in cracking down on serious crimes, including other recent blind murder cases and high-profile investigations such as the rape of Sana Yousaf and an assault case involving a foreign national.
“The timely resolution of these cases has led to a noticeable drop in crime rates in Islamabad,” the minister stated.
The police say they are now preparing to submit the challan (charge sheet) and seek maximum punishment for the culprits.
The incident has reignited calls for enhanced neighborhood security and better coordination between provincial and federal law enforcement, especially in the capital.
