Two Terrorists Killed in North Waziristan During Intelligence-Based Operation: ISPR

In a successful intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted on Wednesday, security forces neutralized two terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The operation was carried out in the Mir Ali area after authorities received credible information regarding the presence of terrorists in the region. ISPR confirmed that an intense firefight broke out between security forces and the terrorists, resulting in the elimination of two members of the Khawarij — a term used to describe outcast militant groups.

“On 09 October 2024, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in general area Mir Ali in North Waziristan District, on [the] reported presence of Khawarij,” the ISPR statement read.

The statement further noted that weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from the terrorists, who were responsible for multiple acts of violence against security forces and the targeted killings of civilians in the area.

The government, in a move made in July, officially designated the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as Fitna al Khawarij and directed all national institutions to refer to them as Khariji (outcast) when discussing their acts of terrorism.

A sanitisation operation has since been launched to track down and neutralize any remaining threats in the area. "Security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country," the ISPR reiterated.

This IBO follows an earlier operation on the same day in Zhob, Balochistan, where two terrorists, including a high-value target (HVT) named Umar @ Umari, were killed while attempting a suicide attack on the Joint Response Centre. During that attack, Havaldar Jam Sher was martyred.

The operation comes at a time when Pakistan has been dealing with a decline in terrorist incidents, according to a security report by the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS). The report noted that September 2024 saw a 24% reduction in terrorist activity compared to the previous month. However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to be a hotspot, suffering 27 of the 45 terrorist attacks recorded nationwide. These incidents claimed 35 lives and injured 70 others.

The banned TTP, along with other militant groups such as the Gul Bahadur Group and Islamic State-Khorasan, remain active in the region. Despite these challenges, security forces remain steadfast in their efforts to eliminate terrorism and protect the citizens of Pakistan.
