The United Nations Human Rights Commission has expressed deep concern and condemnation over disturbing reports that the Indian Navy forcibly dumped Rohingya refugees into the Andaman Sea. The Commission described these actions as inhumane, unacceptable, and a blatant violation of international law.
According to the UN, the allegation that Rohingya refugees were abandoned at sea from naval ships is horrifying and constitutes a serious breach of United Nations conventions protecting refugees and human rights.
In response, the UN Human Rights experts have initiated a formal investigation to verify the claims and gather evidence. The Commission has also demanded that the Indian government conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and provide a full explanation of these incidents.
The UN strongly urged India to immediately cease such inhumane practices and ensure the protection and humane treatment of refugees within its jurisdiction.
This development adds to growing international scrutiny on the treatment of Rohingya refugees, a persecuted minority fleeing violence and discrimination in Myanmar, who have faced numerous challenges and human rights violations during their attempts to seek safety.
