US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has declared that the United States had no involvement in the attack on Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Speaking to foreign media during his official visit to Singapore, Blinken emphasized that a ceasefire is the only viable solution to the ongoing nine-month-long conflict in Gaza.
"The United States is committed to working towards a ceasefire agreement," Blinken stated. "It is crucial to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza and to secure the release of hostages."
Blinken underscored the importance of reducing tensions in the Middle East, noting, "A ceasefire agreement is the best way to achieve this goal. We are actively trying to prevent the Gaza war from spreading to other regions."
The comments came in the wake of the tragic incident in Tehran where Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political wing of Hamas, was killed in an Israeli missile strike. Hamas confirmed Haniyeh's death, along with one of his bodyguards.
According to Israeli media reports, a missile struck the heart of Tehran at around 2 pm Israeli time, targeting Haniyeh and his bodyguard.
This development highlights the volatile situation in the Middle East, with international actors emphasizing the need for diplomatic solutions and ceasefire agreements to prevent further escalation and loss of life.
