The ambitious Dasu Hydropower Project is moving forward steadily with active work ongoing at 20 key sites, aiming to commence power generation by 2027, officials confirmed during a recent site visit by WAPDA Chairman Sajjad Ghani.

Chairman Ghani personally reviewed the construction of the powerhouse and the adjacent Karakoram Highway, key components of the project’s infrastructure. During the visit, authorities briefed him that significant progress has been made, including the completion of the bypass tunnel and open channel designed to divert additional water during the high flow season.

Excavation of the main dam’s foundation is scheduled for completion by August of this year, while the power house excavation is expected to be finished by January 2026. These milestones are critical steps toward meeting the project’s overall timeline.

Emphasizing the importance of timely completion, Chairman Ghani directed all teams to intensify their efforts. He also engaged with local community elders in a jirga, reaffirming WAPDA’s commitment to the social and economic upliftment of the region. Ghani highlighted that significant financial resources are being allocated to various development schemes within the project area to benefit local residents.

The Dasu Hydropower Project, once completed, is expected to significantly boost Pakistan’s energy capacity, providing much-needed clean electricity and supporting the country’s development goals.
