Xi Jinping Urges Chinese Military to Enhance War Preparedness Amid Taiwan Tensions

Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged the People's Liberation Army (PLA) to bolster its war preparedness, emphasizing the importance of solid combat capabilities. Xi's remarks were made during a visit to a brigade of the PLA Rocket Force and were reported by state-run broadcaster CCTV.

According to the report, Xi stated that the military should "comprehensively strengthen training and preparation for war," highlighting the need for troops to enhance their strategic deterrent and combat capability. This directive comes as China continues to assert its claims over Taiwan, a self-ruled island that Beijing considers part of its territory.

Recent military activities by China have raised concerns in the region. On Monday, the PLA conducted its fourth round of large-scale war games around Taiwan in just over two years, deploying fighter jets, drones, warships, and coast guard vessels to encircle the island. These maneuvers have been interpreted as a show of force and a signal of China's determination to exert control over Taiwan.

Xi's statements reflect the ongoing tension in cross-strait relations, which date back to the Chinese Civil War in 1949, when nationalist forces led by Chiang Kai-shek retreated to Taiwan following their defeat by Mao Zedong's communist troops. Since then, China and Taiwan have been governed separately, with the Chinese government maintaining its claim over the island.

The Chinese leadership has repeatedly indicated that it will not rule out the use of force to achieve reunification with Taiwan, heightening fears of potential conflict in the region. Xi's call for enhanced military readiness signals a further escalation in China's approach to Taiwan, raising questions about future relations and stability in the Asia-Pacific.
