Senior PTI leader Yasmin Rashid has approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan, challenging the victory of Nawaz Sharif in the recent general elections from Constituency NA-130.
In her appeal, Dr Rashid has contested the decision of the Election Tribunal, which had dismissed her petition against Nawaz Sharif’s victory on what she described as technical grounds.
According to the plea, the tribunal failed to properly examine the factual record and applicable law while disposing of the case. The appeal further argues that alleged changes in Form 45 — a key document reflecting polling station results — violate constitutional requirements ensuring transparency in the electoral process.
Dr Rashid has also contended that issuing notices to contesting candidates before compiling and finalising election results is a mandatory legal requirement, which she claims was not fulfilled in this case.
The petition requests the apex court to declare the Election Tribunal’s decision null and void and to declare her successful from NA-130.
The case adds to the ongoing legal challenges surrounding the 2024 general elections, as opposition parties continue to question the conduct and transparency of the electoral process in various constituencies.
The Supreme Court is expected to take up the matter for preliminary hearing in due course.
