Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has officially apologized to US President Donald Trump following their heated Oval Office dispute last month, according to Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy.
Witkoff confirmed to Fox News on Monday that Zelensky had sent an apology letter to Trump, calling it an important step in rebuilding relations between Washington and Kyiv. The move comes as both nations prepare for key negotiations on military aid and peace efforts amid Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia.
The Oval Office Clash & Its Fallout
The disagreement in the White House last month was sparked by US efforts to encourage diplomacy with Russia, a stance Zelensky openly resisted. The fallout led to:
✔ Suspension of US military aid to Ukraine
✔ Halted talks on a minerals deal & intelligence sharing
✔ Zelensky describing the meeting as "regrettable" without an immediate apology
Although Trump acknowledged receiving the letter in his latest Congress address, he did not directly reference the apology.
Saudi Arabia Peace Talks: A Possible Breakthrough?
Following the Oval Office dispute, both US and Ukrainian officials are now set to meet in Saudi Arabia this week to discuss a potential ceasefire with Russia. Zelensky and US diplomat Marco Rubio arrived in Riyadh yesterday, with Ukraine proposing a partial truce to de-escalate the three-year war.
🔹 Key Focus Areas:
✔ Territorial security & ceasefire negotiations
✔ Military aid restoration
✔ US-Ukraine relations moving forward
While Zelensky’s apology signals a diplomatic shift, US envoy Witkoff warned that major challenges remain, urging both sides to work with transparency and compromise.
"These are not complicated things, they just need to be put on the table," he emphasized.
With US-Ukraine tensions high and Russia watching closely, the outcome of the Saudi peace talks could significantly impact the future of the Ukraine war and global diplomacy.
