POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Senior leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), Zahid Khan, has announced his departure from active politics. Khan, known for his strong ideological stance, expressed his disappointment with the current state of politics in Pakistan, stating that it no longer aligns with the principles and ideology he once upheld.
"I have always believed in doing politics with a clear ideology and thought," Khan said in his statement. "But unfortunately, the politics we see today lacks any real ideology. It is far removed from the values I have fought for throughout my career."
Khan further mentioned that his future course of action would be decided after consulting with the people of his constituency, indicating that while he is stepping back, he remains committed to serving his community in some capacity.
This announcement comes shortly after another senior ANP leader, Ghulam Ahmed Bilor, declared that he would not be participating in the upcoming elections. Bilor, 85, cited health reasons for his decision but emphasized that he remains dedicated to the cause and will continue to be involved in politics in a non-electoral capacity.
"I fought the 2024 election at the age of 85, but my health no longer permits me to engage in the rigors of election politics," Bilor told Geo News. "However, I will remain a trustee of the martyrs and continue to serve the people through politics until my last breath."
Both announcements mark significant moments for the ANP, as the party witnesses the departure of two of its longstanding and influential leaders. The exits of Khan and Bilor underscore a broader sentiment of disillusionment and the challenges facing the party in adapting to the evolving political landscape in Pakistan.
