Another tragic incident involving a water tanker has claimed the life of a young child in Karachi. A five-year-old boy was killed on Monday after being hit by a high-speed water tanker in the Manghopir area, once again raising serious concerns over reckless driving and tanker-related accidents in the city.
According to police officials, the child, identified as Arif, was struck by the tanker while playing in a street in Manghopir. Due to the severity of the injuries, the child died on the spot.
SSP West Tariq Elahi confirmed that the accident occurred due to overspeeding. He said the tanker driver, identified as Wazir Muhammad, hit the child while driving at a high speed. “The driver’s negligence caused the death of the innocent child,” the SSP stated.
Following the incident, Manghopir police took swift action and arrested the accused driver. The water tanker involved in the accident was also seized by law enforcement authorities.
Police officials said the body of the deceased child was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities, while further investigation into the incident is underway.
The incident adds to the growing list of fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles in Karachi, particularly water tankers, which have repeatedly been linked to deadly crashes across the city. Citizens and civil society groups have repeatedly demanded stricter enforcement of traffic laws and regulation of tanker movement to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
