CPPA Requests Rs 2.63 Per Unit Increase in Electricity Prices Amid Inflation Pressures

In a challenging development for consumers grappling with inflation, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has formally requested an increase of Rs 2.63 per unit in electricity prices. This proposed hike is intended to cover adjustments for fuel costs for June 2024.
The request has been submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and is scheduled for a hearing on July 31. This follows an earlier application from the CPPA seeking a Rs 2.11 per unit increase.
The price adjustment comes as part of the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism, reflecting changes in fuel costs and their impact on electricity generation expenses. As inflation continues to put pressure on household budgets, the potential increase in electricity prices is likely to be a significant concern for consumers across the country.
